GAME CONNECT by FSN-MW Enhances Cardinals Games…

One of my favorite scenes in the Lord of the Rings movies comes early in the first film, after all the Hobbits have finished their meal at Bilbo’s birthday feast. The filled-to-bursting party goers are chatting comfortably and nibbling at scraps of food and sweet desserts. Bilbo, reclining lazily in his chair, affectionately refers to the practice as “filling up the corners.”

For tech-savvy baseball fans, the new version of GAME CONNECT by Fox Sports Midwest does something similar – it “fills up the corners” and enhances your St. Louis Cardinals game experience.

Game Connect is an interactive system that provides users with a way to incorporate additional information, statistics, and social media into ongoing game broadcasts. From the link on FoxSportsMidwest.com, viewers can access Pitcher vs. Hitter career numbers for real time match-ups, month-to-month hitting trends for each batter, and in-game Twitter buzz from both fans and Fox Sports Midwest writers – all on the same screen! But it doesn’t end there…

Fox has really packed a wagon load of bells and whistles into their latest second screen platform. Simply clicking various tabs on the initial screen displays the FSN-MW Game Preview, balls-to-strikes ratios (presented in a nifty Cardinals-themed graphic), and a handy little Twitter window for quick tweeting about the game from your own account.

And each click of the mouse unveils even more content!

The interface itself is clean and user-friendly, and the site navigation is fairly intuitive (although, there’s so much jammed into each screen that it can take a bit of time to find your footing).

All in all, I have to say Fox Sports Midwest’s latest attempt at GAME CONNECT software delivers fairly well on it’s promises. Sure, there’s always room for improvement – I myself can’t wait to have access to in-game spray charts and pitch-by-pitch statistics – but what’s out there is certainly worth a test drive. And if Fox Sports Midwest’s website gurus are to be believed (of course they are ;), more could be coming our way each season.

Alright, alright…I know. You’re tired of hearing about it from me and you’re ready to try it out. No problem. I can help you out with that. Just do the following:

1. Go to www.foxsportsmidwest.com.
2. Click on the St. Louis Cardinals logo to display the FSN-MW Cardinals home page.
3. Scroll down and locate the FOX SPORTS GAME CONNECT graphic in the middle of the page.
4. Click the red CONNECT button (shown below)…and BOOM! You’re connected, baby!

Enjoy fillin’ up the corners with Fox Sports Midwest GAME CONNECT!
